Danielle’s beach maternity session

I have been a maternity photographer for close to a decade and over that time I have found that there at a few key points to choosing a location when photographing outdoor maternity sessions ( not that Chatham Kent has a lot of options, lol ).

1. Choose a location with variety. I love to photograph at Erieau because of the long grasses and trees that give it a perfect country vibe, but also there is the sandy beach, shorter grasses and the water.

2. Less is more. I am somewhat of a minimalist, so this is subjective, but I appreciate the subject, the rest should just be backdrop. I chose areas that accent my clients but do not distract from them.

3. Time of day. This is in-fact the most important detail. I could photograph you on the top of a mountain in the middle of summer and if its not the right time of day, your photos wont have the same spark. Golden hour photos have the most perfect light. As the sun sets, shadows become softer and the lighting is much for natural… and of course, you get the sunset and the flare ( as long as there isn’t a big overcast).

Danielle and Todd’s maternity session had it all. Their love shines brighter than the sunset and I could really tell they are super excited for their baby to join them !
