Helping your newborn fall asleep
I’m going to talk to you today about how to help your newborn fall asleep. Whether or you’re a newborn photographer or a new parent, these 3 tips help most babies fall asleep.
Wrap That Baby - The simplest thing you can do to help your newborn sleep, is to simulate to womb. Babies like to feel secure and warm. My favourite wrapping for my own children has been the super swaddle, it keeps them secure and unable to wiggle their curious little hands out of the swaddle. If you don’t like the idea of wrapping your newborn with arms down, I have also fallen in love with the love to dream sleep sack.
White noise - Mimicking the feeling of the wound is the first step. The second, is to have similar sounds. I have two machines that work wonders. The baby Shusher and the MyBaby sound machine. The
MyBaby has white noise, the sounds of a mothers heartbeat and many other soothing options, I still use it for my 2 & 3 year olds.
Temperature - For newborn photos I like to keep the studio relatively warm, but at home, studies show that a comfortable 68-70 degrees is the perfect temp to help baby sleep into a REM cycle. usually a onsie or a light pj, and a sleep sac or wrap is all they need if your home is a comfortable temperature.
Baby Nash was a rock star. We wrapped him up using photographer safe wrapping techniques, kept him warm, and had the white noise rockin’ . Here are a few photos from his session.
